founder, executive producer
Hey guys, I’m Matt. I started Second Level to help clients solve problems and do awesome work. I’ve been lucky to have an amazing education and experience over 14 years in sports, media and tech, and I’ve built a network of creative, talented people that I wanted to leverage and turn loose.
I began my career in studio production on SportsCenter at ESPN, learning the fundamentals of high-level production that combined storytelling, speed and consistency to make something truly excellent every day. I learned how to write for tv and make a live commentary show producing Olbermann at ESPN, then left to do the same thing building and running the half-hour sports comedy show Garbage Time with Katie Nolan (and The Garbage Time Podcast) for FS1, winning a 2016 Emmy for Outstanding Social TV Experience.
I then focused on learning how to build bigger things, overseeing Original Content and Development for IMG and running the NYC studio for Yahoo Sports, creating original shows and overseeing talent and production on the east coast. I spent the last three years with the streaming tech company Atmosphere TV, building a streaming sports network - Atmosphere Sports - from scratch. Here’s more on all of my work. Here’s my LinkedIn if you want to connect. And here’s my email if you want to chat.
My expertise is in building and developing - shows, teams, talent, studios, channels…making things better, more consistently excellent and more capable of creative growth. Part of second level is the network I’ve built and can call on. When you hire me you also hire those I work with consistently to help make great stuff. From producers, editors, designers and set builders to executives, production companies and networks, I can help get you what, who or where you need.
Originally I’m from Pittsburgh, PA, I went to school at Virginia Tech and my current home base is Austin,TX after almost a decade in NYC. I sometimes am compelled to write about sports media, which you can subscribe to below.
